Lind Skool
Denmark

Early in the school year (2009) Brian Ellis, Principal, was contacted by Lind Skool, a school in Denmark. They found Lind, Washington on the school's website and began corresponding with Brian. After receiving the Lind web site, they began doing research on Lind. Brian turned the information over to history/social study teacher, Kerry Murphy, thinking she might be willing to get something going between them and her students. Her classes did respond through emails, sending information about their school and what it was like to attend school in Lind, Washington. During the Christmas season, the school in Denmark tried to send Lind schools a package, but in Brian's words, the "package got clobbered" in the mail. The school received only the address label. (Note the four pictures of Lind, [above] the first beginning from outer space.)

The following is an email sent to Brian, our local school Principal

Thank you for your mail and all the information. We had a look at the website you wrote about, very interesting, good photos and stories. We have already printed a lot of it to our exhibition. We will visit our local tourist office to find some English information to you about our area. Itīs really different from yours.

We get a lot of rain, actually the weather is something we talk a lot about, because sunny and warm days are something we canīt get enough of!

We are also located in an area with a lot of farming; here itīs mostly pigs and potatoes, but we still have some of The Moor left, which is the original nature. Over the last hundreds years Herning has grown into the main city in the area, and textile have been the main industry, even though a lot of it have moved to China. Because of this Lind has become a suburb even though Lind is much older. The church was built as some of the first churches in Denmark when we got christened 1000 years ago. The first school was build in 1776. You can have a look at the museum website, there is a bit in English http://www.herningmuseum.dk/  And also try our tourist website www.visitherning.dk

We will try to collect things from the area and Denmark to you, and mail it as soon as possible. We have asked 9. Grades to take some photos of our school and town, we will put them on a CD.

Looking forward to hear from you again.

Best regards
Mr. Carsten Thomsen
