Noel Harris
The Lind Chamber of
Commerce proudly announced their 2011 derby
Noel Harris lived in
the Lind area most of his life, moving to a farm near Lind, Washington,
in 1973. He graduated from Lind High School in 1983, and shortly
thereafter, enlisted in the U.S Army. Noel began his service duty in the
infantry, soon deciding that it wasn't the career he wanted. After 4 1/2
years at Fort Clayton in Panama, and six months at Fort Campbell, Noel
left active duty and went directly into the Reserves, re-classing to the
U.S. Military Police Corps at the same time. He was employed as a deputy
sheriff in Florida, but missed the Army. He remained in the Reserves,
returning to active duty in 1994. He's been stationed in Panama,
Germany, Italy, Korea, and is now in Fort Bliss, Texas, where he is the
Brigade Provost Marshal, the lead law enforcement officer for
approximately 6, 000. He's logged five tours of duty and is now eligible
to retire. However, Noel hasn't made a decision
as to his future plans.
Noel was grateful and
honored to be asked to be Lind's Grand Marshal. He credits the small
town and his life on the farm for teaching him responsibility
Noel was escorted
through the parade route on a Troop Transport Truck, owned and driven by
Bernie Erickson, Moses Lake, WA The truck also carried local
Veterans. Thanks, Bernie, for helping make this parade entry very
special!

| During the
rodeo years, the Grand Marshal position was held by the Rodeo Queen, the hostess for the rodeo weekend. When the Rodeo Association
sponsored the rodeo, they also, as a group, represented the grand marshal.
In 1982, the Lind Lions Club became the sponsoring group for the weekend
event, choosing their grandmarshal. Recently, the Lind Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the Grand
Parade and through a committe, have chosen the
Grand Marshal representative. NOTE: * denotes deceased |
