Welcome to Lind! Get ready to Roll!

Unbelievable as it may sound, this year's derby was bigger and better. Another record crowd filled the Lind Arena as the Lind Lions club hosted the 23rd Combine Demolition Derby. Although it is impossible to get an exact count, the Lions Club estimated that more than 5,000 people attended this year’s combine derby. All food/drink/refreshment vendors exceeded last year’s sales, and they were all out of supplies by the end of the derby. The Jim and Pete, the Oyster Guys, was again a very popular attraction. The FFA Porker, in a new building, did equally as well, as did the ASB Sno Cone Stand and the Cheerleader's Peanut booth. And, as always, the Cook Shack was constantly busy, and believe it or not, the beer garden seemed to be a main attraction. Also, pre-sales in the RV Park were over and above what was expected. Reserved spots were sold out the Monday prior to the derby.

It was a scramble for the Lions to
find alternate parking spots for all of them. The challenges for the Lions club and community are many, and every aspect of the weekend requires a lot of attention and preparation. The Lions Club Kiddie Parade, the Chamber's Grand Parade, the popular community BBQ and all of the arena activities are successful because of their specific committees and the many loyal participants. Thankfully, community volunteers chip in, school organizations help out, and little by the weekend is planned and organized. Again, we salute the Lind Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, the many volunteers, and particularly those drivers who work hard to be part of the weekend. It just wouldn’t succeed without all of you.
