28th Grand Marshals, Merlin and Suzie Wallace

Lind residents and civic volunteers, Merlin and Suzie Wallace, ‘grandly’ represented Lind as our 2009 Grand Marshals. With 50 years of involvement in the community, Suzie and Merlin have lists, too long to remember, recognizing their many community achievements. After purchasing Union Oil in 1959, Merlin and Suzie moved to Lind, where they raised their two daughters, Traci and Carrie. Both girls graduated from Lind High School.

Suzie and Merlin have lived in the home originally built by James Neilson 121 years ago. Through many remodels, the home successfully fostered many kids in scouting, music, and several community events. Merlin was involved in Explorer Scouts, and Suzie in Senior Scouts and Girl Scouts. They were also an integral part of a nine member committee who organized and sponsored
Lind’s Centennial Celebration in 1988.

Suzie also found her niche as a teacher – Sunday school, piano lessons, ukulele lessons, musical kindergarten and preschool as well as choir director for the church. Merlin was involved in city government serving for 14 years on the town council as well as Mayor for 4 years. He is currently a member of the Lind Lions Club being an original member in the club’s inception in the early 60’s.

The Lind Community is extremely proud of their Grand Marshals! We salute you, Merlin and Suzie, for outstanding commitment and dedication to the Town of Lind. Thanks for representing your community on our Derby Extravaganza Weekend!

Escorting our Grand Marshals is Lind's Howard Heil in his horseless carriage. Howard inherited this coveted
job and regardless of what you might hear he loves every minute of it!  Thanks Howard!
