Another record crowd filled the Lind Arena as the Lind Lions club hosted the 22nd Combine Demolition Derby. Although it is impossible to get an exact count, the Lions Club estimated that 5,000 people attended this year’s combine derby. All food/drink/refreshment vendors exceeded last year’s sales, and they were all out of supplies by the end of the derby. The Oyster Bar Grill was a main attraction as well as the FFA Porker, the ASB Sno-Cone stand, the cheerleader’s Cotton Candy booth, and of course, the Lions club popular Cook Shack. (Yep! The beer garden, too!). Also, pre-sales in the RV Park were over and above what was expected. The Lions had prepared for 150 RV’s, and many were turned away and sent to alternate parking spots.

The challenges for the Lions club are many, and every aspect of the weekend requires a lot of attention and preparation. The two parades, the popular community BBQ and all of the arena activities are successful because of their specific committees and the many loyal participants. Thankfully, community volunteers chip in, school organizations help out, and little by the weekend is planned and organized. Again, we salute the Lind Lions Club, volunteers, and particularly those drivers who work hard to be part of the weekend. It just wouldn’t help without all of you.
