Another huge crowd filled the Lind Arena as the Lions Club hosted the 21st Combine Demolition Derby. Although it’s impossible to get an exact count, the estimations for the huge crowd numbers were 4,000 – 5,000. All areas were up this year, especially the beer garden! It was a hot and 'thirsty' day. A new vendor was an oyster bar by the main gate of the beer garden. Grilled oysters on the half shell were a 'main attraction' with thirsty derby enthusiasts. Also, a new ticket ‘booth’ graced the area at the east end of the area. All in all, it was a great turnout and most likely larger than last year’s performance.

The derby weekend lists include many challenges for the Lions Club and all of the committees, as well.  The Parades, BBQ, and all arena activities require a lot of attention and work, and it’s a challenge everyone faces every year. Community volunteers pitch in, the school kids help out, and eventually, everything seems to fall into place.  Hats off to the Lind Lions Club, the willing volunteers, and all the kids! It just wouldn’t happen without you! Looking forward to more car derbies, the Lions will also begin sponsoring the many youth activities in Lind as well as helping the Senior Citizens. Want to see what they do every year?  Check out their accomplishments on
http://www.lindwa.com/lionsclub.html You’ll be surprised at all they do for the Community of Lind. Plus, they’ll get busy again and start on a new list of improvements. Hats off to everyone who made this derby a success!

From blue skies to rolling thunder!!!
Blue skies with a little breeze kept the drivers and crowd comfortable.
